What Causes Chronic Inflammation?

Inflammation can be the underlying cause of many diseases, including diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, asthma, Alzheimer’s disease, autoimmune disease, and more. Heart Disease (25.1% of US adult female deaths 2007)

The newest studies and statistics reveal that women over the age of 40 have a staggering 32% chance of developing coronary artery disease. While most cases of heart disease are diagnosed in older women (usually in their 70’s), younger women are actually considered to be more at risk of having a fatal heart attack because they are less likely to seek treatment or recognize symptoms.

Malignant Neoplasms [Cancer] (22.1% of US adult female deaths 2007)

Lung cancer is the leading type of cancer to cause death of women in the United States. Cigarette smoking is considered to be the cause of most cases. Smoking also causes cancers of the esophagus, larynx (voice box), mouth, throat, kidney, bladder, pancreas, stomach, uterine cervix, and acute myeloid leukemia, according to the CDC.

Breast cancer is the second form of cancer responsible for the most deaths of women in the US. Mammograms can help to detect breast cancer early enough for treatment to be most effective.

In 2011, the Alzheimer’s Association’s “2011 Alzheimer’s Disease Facts and Figures” report showed that 3.4 million out of the 5.4 million Americans with Alzheimer’s are women. It is unknown why more women than men suffer from Alzheimer’s, but studies have shown differences in presentation, development, and symptoms of the disease based on gender. Hormone replacement therapy for women has shown an increased risk for developing dementia, and low levels of thyrotropin, a thyroid hormone, has been associated with an increased risk of Alzheimer’s in women. Women suffering from depression are twice as likely to develop the disease and women unable to perform routine tasks without assistance are 3.5 times more likely to develop the disease.

Obesogens don’t let your body’s signaling system tell it when you need fat, adrenaline, or reproductive hormones. They signal your body to continually be hungry, tired, and producing fat, even when you’re eating fruits and vegetables or drinking water. They disrupt brain development and can cause brain abnormalities that have been linked to seizure disorders, depression, attention deficit disorder, and more. They have been linked directly to immune disorders and a host of other preventable diseases. By now, hopefully, you can see how obesogens can severely impact your life, your health, and even the lives of your children.

Obesogens accumulate in your body, so over time, they become more of a health risk. Research hasn’t yet shown us how to reverse the effects of obesogens, so our best strategy at this time is to avoid them and to try to eliminate existing ones from our bodies.

Chemicals that are classified as obesogens are used in the production of PVC pipes, i.e. your plumbing. Using a high quality water filter helps to eliminate these chemicals from your drinking water. The hormones in food have recently been named as the cause of young girls hitting puberty at an average age of 7-9, instead of in their teens. Boys also have higher levels of estrogen than they should. That puts them at high risk for infertility, obesity, mood disorders, and many cancers, including cervical and breast cancer. This is the first generation of kids in history that actually have a shorter life expectancy than their parents’.

It’s time that we stop sacrificing our health for petty conveniences. Making wise choices and clearing out the chemicals that are stored in your body is very important. Part 1: Are Obesogens Making Me Fat?

Lately, the concern about obesogens has been all over the news. Obesogens are chemicals in food that are thought to be to blame for weight gain that can lead to many diseases suffered by the American public. The research has revealed why diets and exercise have failed so many. Controlling calories and fat intake doesn’t do you much good if your endocrine system is programmed to produce fat cells regardless of what you eat. Because of the way that obesogens work in the body, they do a lot more than make you fat.

The term “obesogen” was given to the class of chemicals known as endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) because of their direct effects on the human body’s production of fat. Obesogens interfere with the function of the hormone systems, telling stem cells to turn into fat cells. They have been named as a major contributor in a variety of problems including infertility, brain abnormalities, miscarriage, behavioral problems, impaired immunity, cancer, cardiovascular disease, early onset puberty, and even lowered male birth rates.

Our bodies are largely controlled by hormones. They are secreted when necessary in response to our environment, diet, age, and physiological need. Natural Treatment of Hypothyroidism

Hypothyroidism is a medical condition where the thyroid is underactive and does not make enough thyroid hormone. If you suspect that your thyroid hormone levels are low or if you have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism, then you may be interested in treating it either naturally or with a thyroid hormone medication.

When your thyroid levels are low, you may feel fatigued, have rapid weight gain, acne, dry skin and be sensitive to cold or heat. If left untreated, you could experience hoarseness, swelling of the face, hands and feet, thinning hair or eyebrows, and/or painful salivary gland spasms. Do not leave an underactive thyroid untreated. You could be at risk of a myxedema coma, which can cause mental deterioration, hypothermia, heart failure and respiratory failure.

If you have the symptoms of hypothyroidism and your blood tests come back normal, your doctor may order an ultrasound. An ultrasound may reveal nodules or other changes that could be causing your symptoms. If thyroid hormone levels are simply low, then your doctor may prescribe a thyroid replacement hormone.

The thyroid uses iodine to produce the two thyroid hormones, triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4). T4 must be converted into T3 to give cells energy. If you tell your doctor that you prefer natural treatments, they may prescribe a medication made from a pig thyroid that contains T3 and T4 hormone. Have your hormone levels checked regularly to make sure that you’re not just building up T4 levels, but that you are actually converting them into T3.

If you had a partial thyroidectomy or still have your thyroid, talk to your doctor about nourishing the thyroid and immune system to get them to their optimal states. You may still find it necessary to take prescription replacement hormone medications during the time that you are getting your body healthy, because it can take a long time, months or even years. Once you are healthy, you can find out if it is possible to get off of the medication by slowly lowering your dosage.

Supplementing for your immunity and your thyroid will help you avoid the side effects of taking hormone replacement drugs. It can also help your thyroid medication do its job properly and can relieve symptoms that persist after thyroid hormone levels are normal.

The thyroid is a complex part of an intricate system. Immune responses have to work in harmony with hormonal systems for everything to run smoothly. Autoimmune disease is linked to hypothyroidism. Therefore, it is very important to support the immune system with a lot of extra vitamin C. A strict regimen of selenium, beta-carotene and vitamin E, and vitamin C regulates and calms the immune response. (Note: Vitamin C and selenium should not be taken within about an hour of each other.) Your doctor may also recommend taking CoQ10.

It is important to eat organic and non-processed foods if you have hypothyroidism. Hormones, antibiotics and pesticides in food alter your thyroid and immune system function. Exercise, relaxation, whole grains, garlic, broccoli, ocean fish, and probiotics all help build a healthy immune system and thyroid.

Talk with your doctor about which vitamins and supplements are best for you. The daily requirements are usually much higher for someone with hypothyroidism.
