Parents are looking for natural alternative treatments for their children with neurological disorders, such as Tourette Syndrome, Autism, ADD, ADHD and OCD. Many children have a combination of these disorders that overlap, making diagnosis more difficult and more confusing to everyone. To make matters worse, treatment is often expensive or involves the use of prescription drugs, which many parents want to avoid.

Treatment of neurological disorders with vitamins and supplements has been found to be most effective when paired with dietary changes and behavioral therapies. Diet is thought to play a major role in most people affected by neurological disorders. Many behaviors, reactions to environment, immunity, and even perceptions can be altered by peptides in the body. Peptides are proteins that cannot be digested. These proteins act like opiates in the body altering the mental state. Urine tests can be performed to see if excess peptides are being excreted.

Many people see improvements in behavior, tics, focus, and mood when they alter their diets. Some people report no change, while others see dramatic transformations. Food allergies and sensitivities can alter the chemistry of your body, causing widespread inflammation, digestive problems, immune disorders, and a host of other symptoms.

Chemical exposure can make matters worse. Experts sometimes recommend switching to all natural cleaners in the home and organic foods whenever possible. Food additives and chemicals used to process foods may be well tolerated by some, but cause neurological damage in others. Many chemicals found around the home are actually known neuro-toxins that can be easily absorbed through the skin or through ingestion. Even medications and some vitamins contain chemicals that can cause brain inflammation and further damage to delicate nerve cells.

Dietary and lifestyle changes are your first line of defense when it comes to combating neurological disorders. Behavioral therapies can teach children coping skills and life skills to help them lead more neurotypical lives. Most neurological problems require a multi-faceted approach. There are many different treatment options and you may have to try more than one before you find what works best for you and your child.

Another thing to consider when treating neurological disorders like Autism, Tourette Syndrome, ADD, ADHD, and OCD is the fact that many of these individuals show signs of weakened immunity, have high free radical production, and show signs and symptoms of brain inflammation. Keeping the diet full of fruits and vegetables that combat inflammation has been helpful for many people. Supplementing with vitamins that strengthen the immune system and help defend the body from free radical damage can improve outcomes.

Talk with your doctor, pediatrician, or neurologist about vitamins and supplements for treatment of your child’s condition. Sometimes a simple combination of a multi-vitamin, omega-3 (DHA) supplements, and the <a href="http://www.nutri.com/index.cfm/product/3_1/c-salts.cfm"title="Best Vitamin C">best vitamin C can help you start to see improvement in behavior, stress levels, and tics. Each child is different and coming up with an effective strategy for treatment can take a long time. Work closely with your physician before you <a href="http://www.nutri.com"title="Buy Vitamins">buy vitamins and start finding solutions for your child as soon as possible.

Interested in treating ADHD/ADD symptoms without drugs? You must read this before you <a href="http://www.nutri.com"title="Buy Vitamins">buy vitamins!

Molds, red dye, genetic factors and diet can contribute to the behaviors associated with an Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) diagnosis. Listening skills are hindered, impulse control can be nearly non-existent and children can suffer many academic and social failures.

Very few children diagnosed with ADD or ADHD have measurable psychological or genetic reasons for a diagnosis. One in ten children is currently diagnosed, and over half of these children are treated with addictive, controlled substances. Many doctors and experts expect that only about one in ten of the children diagnosed actually meet the criteria for an actual ADHD or ADD diagnosis.

A diagnosis should only be made by a neurologist or a psychiatrist, not a school principal or pediatrician. The neurosensitivity that causes the behaviors of ADD and ADHD can be attributed to Tourette Syndrome, Pervasive Developmental Disorder (on the Autism Spectrum), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), schizophrenia, mood disorders and many, many other disorders. Simple hyperactivity and the inability to concentrate do not warrant an ADHD or ADD diagnosis.

Neurosensitivity generally comes from genetic and environmental factors. Children diagnosed with ADD or ADHD that have a family history of Tourette Syndrome or OCD, should not take the drugs normally prescribed for ADD and ADHD. Furthermore, ADHD and ADD can develop from an underlying unnoticed disorder like Tourette Syndrome.

Environmental factors can be stress in the home, diet, chemical exposure and/or food additives. Because of the mood swings that ADD and ADHD children experience, adrenaline and other enzymes quickly flush vitamins and nutrients from the body. Specifically, vitamin C and vitamin E are flushed out at alarming rates. If children are not following a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, grilled meats and whole grains, then they are not replenishing these much needed vitamins.

ADHD and ADD children are sensitive to chemical food additives that evoke a neurological response. These chemicals, including monosodium glutamate (MSG), are commonly added to foods, not to enhance flavor, but to cause your brain to perceive an enhanced flavor. These chemicals designed to evoke a neurological response can be especially damaging to children with low levels of vitamin C and E. Exposure to chemicals and dyes can cause brain inflammation, reverting the brain back to functioning on a survival level. Higher brain functions, like handwriting and social skills, simply cannot be attained when the brain is in this hypersensitive state.

DHA Omega-3 supplements also help to protect sensitive neurons that can be damaged by chemicals, and also help to reduce inflammation. In Japan, green tea is the number one treatment for ADHD and ADD. Theanine, found in green tea, is a very promising supplement that can greatly reduce symptoms and behaviors. Studies are showing that theanine is quickly effective and safe when given in the right doses. The problem remains that there is little funding for research that does not involve a profit being made by a drug company.

Psychotropic drugs can only mask behaviors and children passively comply. No long term benefits have been found by the use of drugs in the treatment of ADD or ADHD. Behavioral therapy gives them an active role in recovery and has long lasting positive effects.

Get behavioral therapy, <a href="http://www.nutri.com"title="Buy Vitamins">buy vitamins, and control the diet. Behavioral therapy is extremely effective for over 2/3 of all diagnosed children. Creating a healthy body and home environment will give your child their best chance of coming out the other side a happy and healthy adult.
