Part 2: Are Obesogens Making Me Fat?

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

Obesogens don’t let your body’s signaling system tell it when you need fat, adrenaline, or reproductive hormones. They signal your body to continually be hungry, tired, and producing fat, even when you’re eating fruits and vegetables or drinking water. They disrupt brain development and can cause brain abnormalities that have been linked to seizure disorders, depression, attention deficit disorder, and more. They have been linked directly to immune disorders and a host of other preventable diseases. By now, hopefully, you can see how obesogens can severely impact your life, your health, and even the lives of your children.

Obesogens accumulate in your body, so over time, they become more of a health risk. Research hasn’t yet shown us how to reverse the effects of obesogens, so our best strategy at this time is to avoid them and to try to eliminate existing ones from our bodies.

Chemicals that are classified as obesogens are used in the production of PVC pipes, i.e. your plumbing. Using a high quality water filter helps to eliminate these chemicals from your drinking water. Other PVC chemical sources include your water hose, backpacks, shower curtains, toilet seats, tables, remote controls, and more. The list is really endless.

Obesogens are absorbed by food and drinks that are stored or heated in plastic containers. Canned foods are lined with plastic and then heated in the canning process. Opt for frozen or fresh vegetables instead. Try to choose drinks and food that come in glass or stainless steel containers. Don’t reuse water bottles or other disposables, because they can be very dangerous.

Hormones, high fructose corn syrup, and pesticides are also obesogen sources. You should buy certified organic food whenever possible. Remember that even eating a strawberry that has been sprayed with pesticide can tell your body to produce fat cells and damage your body. High fructose corn syrup is added to almost every prepackaged meal.

Non-organic meat is a big obesogen source. The animals’ feed is heavily laden with hormones and antibiotics to produce meats in proportions that our ancestors wouldn’t believe. A one pound chicken breast used to be unheard of! Think about the unregulated amounts of estrogen that is given to chickens to make them constantly lay eggs; huge eggs. Then think about the large amounts given to cows to make them produce gigantic volumes of milk.

The hormones in food have recently been named as the cause of young girls hitting puberty at an average age of 7-9, instead of in their teens. Boys also have higher levels of estrogen than they should. That puts them at high risk for infertility, obesity, mood disorders, and many cancers, including cervical and breast cancer. This is the first generation of kids in history that actually have a shorter life expectancy than their parents’.

It’s time that we stop sacrificing our health for petty conveniences. Making wise choices and clearing out the chemicals that are stored in your body is very important. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that flushes out free-radicals and chemicals. Using the best vitamin C powder is a good way to boost your immunity and start cleaning up your system.

If you think that organic food is more expensive, just remember that you’ll be saving loads of money by avoiding prepackaged items. Using discount vitamins and supplements can help you to afford a long-term supplementing regimen that can help you to improve your health for life. What little extra you do have to spend now could save you and your kids thousands in medical expenses later.
